Knowledgeable Docents, that is, volunteer tour guides make this Museum come alive! Each tour of the eight galleries are customized by the Docents, taking into account the age of the visitors, including children. You can learn as little or as much as you wish to about any of the exhibits and subjects represented by the exhibits. It is a good place to spend the entire day or just a short time, returning another day to see the exhibits that you did not see on that visit. Learn about the considerable history of Aviation that was and is a major part of the history of Long Island! They even have an actual Lunar Lander, that was part of the Apollo program! It is one of only two such spacecraft left in the world!
The thing I enjoyed the most was Just how close you can get to many of the exhibits - we were even let into a couple by the staff that were sealed off. You can touch many of the things there too.
Really cool place. Good for all age groups. Even for people with little fascination in planes, this place is awesome. Really interesting and fun to look around. Also has a gift shop which is a little pricey but cool for a souvenir.
It has a gift shop that is reasonably priced, although not as varied as some and although I never tried it I am led to believe the cafe is rather good!
I visited this museum today. A lot of the interactive displays do not work. This was disappointing, as the price tag is 15. 00 per adult. The museum needs to be updated big time. The floors are dingy, and so is the seating in the movie theater. A great, large space should be utilized better. Please update this museum. It could be so much better.
I've been to a lot of aviation museums over the years (thanks dad!) and this one is up there with the best of them. It's very Long Island-centric as you would expect but the sheer amount of aircraft and the variation is very impressive.
The staff are very helpful and insightful; willing to share information and have a chat.
Great museum to visit on a rainy day. Me and my girlfriend visited and we were interested in all the exhibits. Museum is set up nicely and is for kids and adults. The show in the planetarium was also very cool. Great experience and recommended. We spent about 2.5 hrs there. Could have easily spent more time.
